Job Summary
The National Freight Coordinator is responsible for execution of freight shipping and auditing processes for the Oldcastle Infrastructure transportation network. The position will work with operational and procurement teams to create, monitor, and approve freight shipments within the Pipe and Precast and Plastics and Composites network. The National Freight Coordinator will identify required shipments for Oldcastle Infrastructure locations and determine transit and cost details for outbound and inbound shipments. This position will monitor shipments and ensure proper completion as well as review invoices submitted for freight movements and ensure freight costs match quoted pricing. This position will serve as the Subject Matter Expert for transportation shipping processes within Oldcastle Infrastructure. They will train best practices to plant personnel for shipping, as well as maintain standard practice documents for end-user training. Some travel may be required to visit plant facilities to assist in training and auditing transportation processes.
As a member of the Logistics Team, the National Freight Coordinator will be responsible for working with carrier partners to review outstanding freight invoices for validity and to initiate payment processing. They will work with partners in Accounts Payable and Operational Locations to validate shipments and action outstanding invoices for payment. For special projects and requests, the National Freight Coordinator will provide insight and costing for transportation models, from either existing pricing or by requesting spot and contract quotes from carrier partners. This position will also work to create and maintain reports regarding key freight KPI’s from various internal systems, including ERP’s, Transportation Management Systems, and vendor information.
The National Freight Coordinator will build strong relationships and work directly with key internal stakeholders, suppliers, specifiers, subject matter experts, management, and others to ensure Oldcastle Infrastructure shipments are completed.
Job Responsibilities
- Communicate with production plants, outside vendors, and purchasing teams to determine shipping needs.
- Order freight using appropriate Transportation Management System or carrier freight process.
- Monitor and maintain visibility of in-transit shipments and ensure collection of BOL and POD from carrier.
- Verify invoice for in-transit shipments and provide initial freight audit and approval.
- Review outstanding freight invoices from carrier partners and complete procure to pay follow-through.
- Review and accept or reject outstanding invoices from carriers and apply proper transportation processes to ensure payment.
- Work with AP partners to monitor aging reports and outstanding payables to ensure proper payment to carriers.
- Serve as SME for field operations personnel on proper shipping and invoicing processes.
- Maintains vendor relationships with carrier AR personnel.
- Point of contact for AP Department, Procurement, and Operations on freight questions and serve as SME to CRH Logistics Category Management team.
Job Requirements
- Well-rounded logistics / transportation professional with sound business acumen.
- Experience in freight billing and Accounts Payable processes.
- Knowledge of LTL and Truckload freight processes, from Quote through Invoicing steps.
- Critical thinking skills to investigate individual items and identify proper resolution steps without direction.
- Able to organize and prioritize multiple requests properly.
- Able to drive tasks through completion and follow up as required for task closure.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including reading, writing and verbal communication.
- Able to operate ERP and Transportation Management Systems, as well as general office software.
- Associates or Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
- Experience in transportation organizations required, preference to dispatch, billing and audit departments.
- Familiarity with business systems, email, spreadsheets.
- Invoice review, approval and account auditing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and transportation environments preferred.
